Islamic Higher Education Institutions (Perguruan Tinggi Keagamaan Islam/PTKI) continue to face epistemological challenges characterized by the dichotomy between religious and modern sciences, methodological stagnation, and the dominance of normative paradigms that hinder the development of progressive and measurable research. This study focuses on reorienting the epistemology of PTKI through the framework of Imre Lakatos’ Scientific Research Programmes (SRP) in order to address the absence of an evaluative model capable of systematically assessing the direction and progressivity of PTKI research. The study employed a qualitative library research design with a content analysis approach, examining scholarly literature on Islamic epistemology and Lakatosian philosophy of science. The findings reveal that the SRP framework—through the concepts of hard core, protective belt, and positive heuristics—provides an operational basis for fostering research innovation, strengthening transdisciplinary learning, and developing research methodologies that are adaptive to scientific dynamics. The study implies that the proposed SRP-based conceptual evaluative model can be utilized to assess the coherence, quality, and progressivity of research programs in Islamic higher education, while simultaneously encouraging a more integrative, responsive, and globally competitive epistemological transformation
