Abstract

The rapid advancement of globalization and technology demands an educational model that not only focuses on knowledge acquisition but also emphasizes 21st-century skills, such as critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity (4C). This study aims to examine the Prophet Muhammad’s instructional model based on the Qur’an and analyze its relevance to 21st-century learning approaches. Using a qualitative descriptive approach with a literature study method, this research draws on primary data from Qur’anic verses and Hadiths, and secondary data from classical books and scholarly articles published between 2015 and 2025. The findings reveal that the Prophet’s instructional practices embodied essential 21st-century competencies: critical thinking through reflection and discussion of revelations, effective communication in preaching, collaboration in social life, and creativity in delivering messages through analogies and inspiring stories. These elements align with modern pedagogical approaches such as Cooperative Learning, Problem-Based Learning (PBL), Project-Based Learning (PjBL), Inquiry, and Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL). This research contributes both theoretically and practically by offering an integrative framework that connects the Prophet’s instructional model with contemporary educational strategies, providing valuable insights for developing Islamic Religious Education (PAI) curricula rooted in values and 21st-century competencies
