Abstract

The low level of critical thinking skills among pre-service teacher students has become a crucial issue in higher education, largely due to the continued use of conventional teaching methods and the limited integration of educational technology. Students often remain passive, lack reflection, and are not actively engaged in analytical learning processes. This study aims to explore students’ perspectives on the use of Quizizz as a platform to foster critical thinking skills in the Teaching Profession course at the Institut Agama Islam Sumatera Barat (IAI SUMBAR) in Pariaman. This research employed a qualitative exploratory approach, collecting data through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation, and analyzed the findings using thematic analysis. The results show that Quizizz positively contributes to students’ learning motivation, error reflection, and engagement in critical discussions. Its interactive features and gamification elements effectively support the development of Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS). However, challenges remain in terms of question quality, internet connectivity issues, and lecturers’ readiness to design technology-based learning. The study recommends the strategic integration of Quizizz into the curriculum and training for lecturers in HOTS-oriented question development to enhance the quality of teaching and learning in higher education
