Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of using Busy Books in improving the storytelling skills of 5-6 year old children at RA Al-Huda Arjasari. Specifically, this study examines: (1) the storytelling skills of children in the experimental group who used Busy Books, (2) the storytelling skills of children in the control group who used Flashcards, and (3) the differences in storytelling skills between the two groups. The research method used was a quasi-experiment with a pretest-posttest control group design. The research subjects consisted of 22 children, 11 in the experimental group and 11 in the control group. The instruments used included a storytelling ability observation sheet with indicators of vocabulary selection, sentence structure, storytelling fluency, and the ability to retell the story. The statistical test results showed that the data were normally distributed and homogeneous, so the analysis was continued with a t-test. The paired sample t-test results showed a significant increase in storytelling ability in the experimental group (p < 0.05), while the increase in the control group was also significant but lower. The independent sample t-test showed a significant difference between the two groups (p < 0.05), indicating that Busy Books are more effective than flashcards. Thus, Busy Books can be an alternative interactive and multisensory learning medium to optimize the storytelling skills of early childhood.
