Moral degradation among students has become a significant challenge in Islamic education; therefore, the role of Islamic Religious Education teachers is needed not only as instructors but also as spiritual guides and moral role models. The uniqueness of the religious ecosystem at SMP Djama’atul Ichwan encourages this study to examine the role of Islamic Religious Education teachers in developing students’ spiritual potential. This study employed a descriptive qualitative approach with a phenomenological design. Data were collected through participatory observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation, and were then analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings show that Islamic Religious Education teachers serve as murabbi, mursyid, and uswatun hasanah through religious habituation, tasyji’, exemplary conduct, personal guidance, and conflict mediation. These roles actualize students’ spiritual potential, namely fitrah, ‘aql, qalb, and nafs, as reflected in religious awareness, reflective thinking, empathy, emotional self-control, and altruistic behavior. This study argues that the development of spiritual potential can be effectively carried out through the integration of religious habituation, emotional teacher-student relationships, and consistent exemplary conduct within the school ecosystem.
